Sheet Metal Workers No. 265 in Carol Stream, Illinois will host an open house and facility tour from 7 to 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week Nov. 14-18. The organization has reached out to community high schools and community colleges to invite students to the event.
The local serves nine counties, including DuPage, Grundy, Iroquois, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Livingston, McHenry and Will and was established in 1913.
National Apprenticeship Week was created in 2015 to tell the story of apprenticeships and invite business and industry, education, career seekers, community-based organizations, students and workers to learn about the real world advantages of this form of higher education.
More than 14,000 sheet metal apprentices are registered at over 150 union sheet metal training facilities across the United State and Canada. Those who participate in sheet metal apprenticeships across the country often graduate debt-free with a career and living wage generally well above that of their college or university counterparts.
