David Bernett has been named administrator for the National Energy Management Institute Committee (NEMIC). He replaces Charles “Chuck” Holt, who held the position previously. Bernett officially took over the role Oct. 1.
A native of Pittsburgh, Bernett has been in the sheet metal industry for 28 years, beginning his apprenticeship in 1987 after serving four years in the Marines. As a journeyman, he concentrated on planning and ran jobs as a field foreman. On the union side, he served as an organizer and a business representative. For the last three years, he has served as the business manager/financial secretary-treasurer for Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 12.
The creative process involved in sheet metal work is one often overlooked, but the part of the job he enjoys the most. As a military veteran, he can see why sheet metal work appeals to honorably discharged veterans.
“The unionized sheet metal industry has been on the front-end of emerging markets for years,” Bernett said. “I’m excited to be a part of it in this new position.”
